Improvements

Move Data From EDIS to GCP

We know that exporting data to a secure destination is essential for our clients. That’s why at EDIS, we’ve built reliable export options for S3, SFTP, and Google Cloud Storage (GCP).

This update focuses on GCP, offering easier data access, less manual work, and better scalability. The post is organized around the two key setup requirements so we can set up the export for you quickly and securely: Connection Setup and Action to Perform.

Connection Setup

To configure the GCP connection string, please provide the following:

  • Project ID: Target GCP project
  • Bucket Name
  • GCP JSON Path: Path to the service account key file (.json)

An example is shown below:

Action to Perform

Once the connection is established, please define the action to perform:

  1. Table Export: Migrate table data such as students, users, and schools
  2. Custom Report Export

Table Export

To set up a table export, we require the following:

  • Cron Expression: Time to run the scheduled task (e.g., 14:00 PM)
  • Action: TableExport
  • A JSON definition containing:

    • Table Name: The table to export (e.g., students, users, schedule)
    • Columns: List of column names to export from the specified table (e.g., ID, FirstName, LastName)
    • Export Format: Desired file format (.csv)
    • Project ID: Project name
    • File Name: Desired name for the exported file

This process will extract the specified columns from the database, save them to a file, and upload the file to your designated GCP bucket folder.

Important: You may export as many tables as needed. However, each table must have its own scheduled task.

Custom Report Export

To configure a custom report export, please provide the following:

  • Cron Expression: Time to run the scheduled task
  • Action: CustomReportExport
  • A JSON definition containing:

    • Custom Report ID
    • Export Format (.csv)
    • File Name: Desired name for the exported file
